RRSP season is now in full swing.
We are inundated with soothing ads encouraging us to save now for a dreamy retirement with an RRSP.
You may recognize the actors - straight from central casting - healthy looking retirees enjoying a snazzy lifestyle that most people can only dream of. Sigh.
Canadians will obediently follow the annual ritual and attend to the nearest financial institution and make their hope-filled contribution, usually a day or two before the deadline.
Despite the fact that 59% of us have diligently invested in our financial future with an RRSP, it turns out that baby boomers are simply not prepared for retirement.
If you are a business owner or incorporated professional, you may want to avoid the depositors’ line at RRSP Central and discover the many advantages of using an Individual Pension Plan (IPP) instead of relying on a traditional RRSP.
Unfortunately this advantage is not available to everyday employed types.
Just for starters: You will enjoy higher contribution limits, better returns, improved creditor protection and the ability to transfer wealth to family members on a tax-free basis.
The TaxLetter® just published my article “RRSP vs IPP”. Read it here for a better understanding of the IPP advantage.
Please be in touch for a no-obligation consultation on IPPs and your retirement planning, a second opinion review of your protection portfolio or an introduction to my professional wealth planning colleagues.
