Eli, my eldest son’s best friend, graduated 6 months ago from York U
He was desperately seeking his 1st job in an accounting firm and was losing hope.
I told him to select 20-30 CPAs from my LinkedIn contacts and send a message saying he was my family friend and was “looking for work”.
Most replied ‘nothing available’ but would keep him in mind.
My dear friend and colleague Jeffrey Brown, a partner at Fuller Landau, sent Eli's note to his HR department as well as to several of his CPA friends including Danny Diamond of Grant Thornton.
Eli got an interview, and an entry level job offer from Grant Thornton!
After many mazel tov's, I asked Jeffrey why he went to so much trouble.
"It’s no trouble doing what we HAVE to do, which is helping others." he answered.
Simple, elegant and so true.
With no heavy lifting, especially during these challenging times, we all have the ability to help many people and make a big difference, from finding a job to helping raise money for people in need.
Thought this story would inspire more of us in the LinkedIn "family"
Best of luck at the new job Eli. Now go get married!
