At a Zoom presentation last month with major donors and the Board of Directors for a hospital foundation, I explained why Planned Legacy Giving is so important for charities and donors (at minimum as a blended gift), and shared many tax-effective ways to maximize impact and minimize cost.
When the meeting ended, the board President said: “I’m a reasonably intelligent person. I’m also reasonably successful. But I only knew about 2% of what you talked about. Why don’t I know this information and why don’t our donors???”
It was a very honest “Aha” moment for those assembled and was very inspiring for me since I spend so much time sharing this wisdom and knowledge with clients, non-profits and allied professionals.
His reaction, I will tell you confidently, is the rule and NOT the exception.
It demonstrates that our professional opportunity is huge, along with our responsibility to help charitable organizations generate much-needed funds in a more cost and tax-effective way versus cash, cheques and credit cards.
